Light It Up Blue!

Today, April 2nd, is World Autism Awareness Day.  A 2010  study conducted by the U.S. CDC found that approximately 1 in 68 American children are on the autism spectrum.  Furthermore, they estimate that autism spectrum disorders affect more than 2 million Americans and tens of millions of individuals across the globe.   World Autism Awareness Day began as a day to honour those with autism and is celebrated with the annual “Light it up Blue” campaign.

Austin Riley, like many normal 13 year old boys, has a love of cars and racing. At his young age, he is a competitive and accomplished go-kart racer who is highly decorated in his sport. The only difference between Austin and those he races against is he has autism, suffers from anxiety and has fine motor skill issues. Austin and his family started Racing With Autism as a way to financially support Austin’s racing, which is very therapeutic for him, and to raise funds for Autism Awareness. Food For Thought: Can The Gluten-Free/Casein-Free Diet Help With Autism?
